New Venue Causes a Little Difficulty
Duggan's Pub ~ 11th & K
Downbeat at 9pm
Friday, September 21, 2007
After taking up residence at the Del Ray for the first months of our genesis, we've decided to shake things up and try out some new digs. Duggan's Pub was willing, so, we booked a couple of dates. Breaking in the new place wasn't without adventure, however. The FAC band played longer than their slot which put us a little off-schedule. And, being a pretty difficult band to amplify, it took Robbie a long time to get us set up. So we didn't actually get going until well after our 9pm start time. [Grumble.]
So the audience was getting a bit restless as we lit into our first set. You know, the one that's designed to be mostly background music so people can get their drink on and chill with friends. What we forgot to calculate, however, is that once that set was over, we didn't have much time to wind it up. So we took only a short intermission and got busy trying to jack the place UP. And, well, it worked pretty well. By the time "Rock the Casbah" came around, there were some whoops and hollers and asses shaking on the dance floor. Whew. It's going to be a good gig after all.
The break between the second and third set came at the winding down time of night...much later than ususal. So by the time we got around to our last set, we were out of time and most of the audience had headed for home. But the group that remained couldn't get enough and we stayed a little longer than the bar would've preferred. But, under the circumstances, relented and didn't pull the plug.
All-in-all, the band and the venue got to know each other a little better, and for the most part, the crowd was none the wiser as all seemed to have a great damn time. Which, after all, is really the name of the game. We're all relieved to have another crack at this place in another month. See you then, kids!
